Train the trainers - Pilot workshop

at University of Peradeniya

The Asia Pacific – Generative AI for NREN Empowerment & Development (AP-GAINED) Pilot Training Workshop was successfully held from 28th to 30th January 2025 at the Agricultural Biotechnology Center, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. The workshop brought together a vibrant group of 33 participants from across LEARN member institutions, representing a wide spectrum of professional backgrounds.

This pioneering event was designed as a transformative capacity-building initiative, aimed at equipping professionals—both academic and non-academic—with the knowledge and practical skills required to effectively integrate Generative AI technologies into their day-to-day operations. Recognizing the increasing significance of AI in reshaping organizational processes, the program focused on empowering staff across multiple domains including IT services, administration, finance, communications, marketing, and other support functions.

Participants took part in a series of interactive sessions, hands-on demonstrations, and real-world use case explorations, gaining direct exposure to advanced AI tools and techniques. The training emphasized practical applications that could enhance efficiency, streamline workflows, and support data-driven innovation within their institutions.

The AP-GAINED initiative reflects LEARN’s ongoing commitment to driving digital transformation within Sri Lanka's research and education sector. By delivering inclusive, practical training to both technical and non-technical professionals, this program ensures that all parts of an institution are equipped to embrace the power of AI.

This successful pilot workshop sets a strong foundation for future regional engagement, fostering long-term collaboration and continued capacity building under the broader AP-GAINED framework across the Asia-Pacific NREN community.
