Empowering Technical Officers with GenAI Skills
As part of the AP-GAINED (Asia-Pacific – Generative AI for NREN Empowerment & Development) project’s ongoing commitment to fostering AI skills across higher education, LEARN successfully conducted its first-ever workshop on Gen-AI tailored specifically for technical officers from Sri Lankan universities. This pioneering event marked a significant milestone in the national effort to upskill institutional personnel and embed AI readiness into the backbone of university operations.
The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Union of Information Technologists of Sri Lanka (UITUSL), whose network of university technical staff played a key role in shaping the training’s practical focus. The program was led by esteemed academics Prof. Roshan Ragel and Dr. Asitha Bandaranayake, both recognized for their leadership in AI and digital innovation in the higher education sector.
Throughout the session, participants were introduced to foundational Gen-AI concepts, current trends, and the latest tools shaping this transformative technology. Hands-on modules enabled attendees to explore GenAI-powered solutions that can streamline workflows, improve service delivery, and accelerate digital transformation initiatives within their institutions.
