Exploring GenAI at the AP-GAINED Workshop | APAN59
The AP-GAINED Workshop, held during APAN59 in Yokohama, Japan, marked a significant milestone in LEARN’s efforts to strengthen AI capacity across the Asia-Pacific region. This two-day hands-on workshop brought together both technical and non-technical staff from National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) to explore and apply Generative AI (GenAI) tools in practical, operational contexts.
Led by LEARN's Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Roshan Ragel, and Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Asitha Bandaranayake, the workshop featured expert-led sessions covering core topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI fundamentals, and prompt engineering. Participants benefited from a dynamic learning environment that combined expert instruction with real-world applications through collaborative group work.
A strong emphasis was placed on responsible and ethical AI Use, reinforcing the importance of integrity and accountability in AI adoption across academic and research institutions.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all participants for their enthusiasm, collaboration, and commitment throughout the workshop. Their active engagement was key to making this initiative a success.
